Good morning.
Today, one of our student organizations has invited a speaker who will be on campus between 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The student organization and their speaker have followed all stipulations of the campus Time, Place, and Manner policy, so their event will proceed as planned on the lawn outside of The Outpost. This speaker has visited other campuses throughout the past month, and we wanted to share a few pieces of information about some of those appearances and what can be expected on our campus today.
-
During recent campus appearances, this speaker has attracted a large number of off-campus supporters not affiliated with the host institution.
-
The speaker's team filmed the events and the audience to use the footage later for their own purposes. They will be filming at today’s event.
-
The speaker's team has indicated their intention to press legal charges against anyone who treats them in any way that violates any laws.
-
At a very recent appearance on a college campus, there was at least one person in the audience dressed as an ICE agent, even though they were not officers.
-
On other campuses, the crowds have sometimes gotten quite large.
For some of these reasons, the university will have a noticeable police presence surrounding this event. Please be advised of the expected activity and the time and location.
If you normally use The Outpost on Mondays, be aware that it will remain open but accessing it during this time window will require encountering this event. Alternatively, other food options on lower campus include Wall StrEAT Cafe near the College of Business and Shake Smart at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. The Nugget and other stores will also be open.
There are other events happening on campus at that same time that are planned by university entities. Please consider attending a de-stress for finals event in FO-4 or an educational event at Speakers Platform. Refreshments will be served at both of those events.
As always, CSULB respects everyone's right to free speech, and it is our expectation that this event will remain safe and without incident for all parties.
